Length: about 1 hour. The programme must be ordered in advance
Founded in Ignalina, UAB “Romnesa” began by baking bread and pastries, and later began to make tree cakes. In 2013, the company expanded to a location near Druskininkai, on the banks of the picturesque Ratnyčia stream. A century-old mill stands nearby. In May 2015, to celebrate the opening of the first and only Tree Cake Museum in the world, a Guinness World Record-setting tree cake was baked and it remains on display. The height of the tree cake is 372 cm and its weight is almost 86 kg! The museum exhibits foreign analogues of the Lithuanian tree cake, including examples of tree cake as baked in Hungary, Sweden, Japan, Poland and elsewhere. Making a tree cake is a distinctive process, and it is interesting to watch. During the educational programme “Parodomasis šakočio kepimas” (Demonstration of tree cake baking), participants watch the tree cake baking process, learn how it was baked in the Stone Age and how it changed in later times, and what was the favourite dessert of Barbora Radvilaitė, Grand Duchess of Lithuania. The programme includes a playful quiz and is full of fun surprises, including tasting of the treats baked at “Romnesa”.
